Self - Esteem Youth Development Programme (SEYD)

The Self Esteem Youth Development Programme is an initiative designed to address issues identified by young people in relation to self esteem, drugs & alcohol, sexual health and mental health. The initial 10 week programme was planned and facilitated by the Health Promotion Officer for Youth, a Community Volunteer and an Outreach Youth Worker. Subsequent groups have been facilitated across the Southern Trust area with support from the HPO for Youth.

The aims of the project are:
  • To develop the self-esteem and self confidence of a group of young people
  • To encourage them to use these new skills to foster a sense of belonging and involvement in their respective communities

The Project objectives are:
  • To provide information on self–esteem
  • To explore the importance of good communication and positive self image
  • To explore support mechanisms and their importance for young people
  • To try something different and have fun

The programme is based around the Up! Manual, is transferable to any group of young people but is ideally suited to those who have issues with self esteem but it would be of equal benefit to all young people and would afford a positive opportunity for anyone to reflect on their understanding of themselves and their relationships with those around them.
