Home Protect Life Strategy

In October 2006, the Protect Life A Shared Vision – The Northern Ireland Suicide Prevention Strategy and Action Plan 2006 – 2011 was launched by the Department of Health and Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS). The Strategy’s overarching target is to reduce the suicide rate in Northern Ireland by 15% by 2011.

In response to the Protect Life Strategy, the Southern Health and Social Care Trust established an Interagency Protect Life Implementation Group. The role of the Southern Health and Social Care Trust Protect Life Suicide Prevention Implementation Group is:

• To ensure the implementation of the recommendations of the Protect Life Suicide Prevention Strategy;

• To develop a comprehensive action plan to address the strategies’ aims and objectives in line with the core values and corporate objectives of the Southern Health and Social Care Trust;

• To develop a monitoring and evaluation framework;

• To ensure the involvement of all stakeholders in the planning implementation and monitoring process with a particular emphasis on the voluntary/community sector;

This group has developed a Suicide Prevention Action Plan for the Southern Trust area based on the Northern Ireland Suicide Prevention Strategy and Action Plan 2006 – 2011 and the Southern Area Action Plan developed by the SHSSB in partnership with the Southern Investing for Health Partnership.   For copy of this Action Plan click here
