March 2011 Dear all, The SHSCT is delighted to announce that Macmillan Cancer Support will be funding a three year project in the SHSCT hospital and community settings to establish a sustainable cancer information service. This service will aim to ensure easier access to information and community support services for people affected by cancer, and also those who may have other long-term conditions. The service will be developed initially in Craigavon Area Hospital with roll out to Daisy Hill, South Tyrone, Lurgan Hospitals and other appropriate community venues. The recently launched N Ireland Cancer Services framework sets out standards for cancer services including prevention, diagnosis, treatment, ongoing care, rehabilitation, and palliative and end of life care. This includes standards for access to good information to support people affected by cancer throughout their cancer journey. (Standard 4) This new information project will increase the dissemination, accessibility and use of cancer and health information and identify ways to overcome the barriers people face in seeking information and support. The project will seek to enhance collaboration and partnership across Health Social Care and Community and Voluntary support services to effectively meet the information needs of people affected by cancer and long term conditions. It is intended that innovative volunteering and targeted health programmes will further complement this project. An information event about this project will be arranged for the public, community and voluntary sector. If you would like further information or wish to register interest in supporting this project please contact:
