About our project/programme

Self Esteem Youth Development Programme (SEYD)
A 10 week youth programme (+ residential) based on the UP manual.

The SEYD Project aims were:
To develop the self-esteem and self confidence of a group of young people from the Newry area
To encourage them to use these new skills to foster a sense of belonging and involvement in their respective communities
The SEYD Project objectives were:
To provide information on self–esteem
To explore the importance of good communication and positive self image
To explore support mechanisms and their importance for young people
To try something different and have fun

What difference did it make

Young people - All of the young people who completed the programme stated:
That their self esteem had improved as a direct result of being on the SEYD programme
That they had been enabled to develop improved relationships with the community and significant others
That they had developed their self-confidence
That they had increased their knowledge of alternative therapies and their benefits
That they had really enjoyed the programme
About ½ the group stated that they planned to become more involved with the SELB Youth Service.
 Organisation
Facilitators had increased confidence in the programme and had developed new knowledge & skills which can be used with other young people and groups
Had engaged a group of young people in a positive way and SELB Youth Service will benefit from their input and feedback
How we plan to build on our work in the future
The programme is ideally suited to young people who have issues with self esteem but it would be of equal benefit to all young people and would afford a positive opportunity for anyone to reflect on their understanding of themselves and their relationships with those around them. The programme will be coordinated in the Autumn in Newry by the Community Volunteer and will also be available for one other Youth group in the SELB area.
