Home Cooking Skills Local Initiatives

Cook it! was launched in the Southern board area on the 1st of March 2006. To date 26 Facilitators have been trained across the southern area. Cook it! programmes have been delivered to a wide range of groups.

These include: young mothers women’s groups groups with physical disabilities and learning disabilities men with brain injury residents in homeless hostels groups with mental health difficulties Facilitators meet up at Cook it! Network meetings which take place every 2-3 months.

This gives Facilitators the opportunity to meet other trained Facilitators, share learning and receive updates on nutrition. Becoming a Facilitator doesn’t mean you have to be a great cook! It is important to have a desire to work with people who want to learn how to cook healthy low cost meals.

A love of food and a sense of humour also helps! Facilitators are from a wide range of organisations including Community groups, Healthy Living Centres, Health Action Zone, Sure Starts, Homeless Hostels, mental health groups etc.
