Goal Post Safety

Fatal accidents have happened involving goal posts. There are three aspects of a goal’s design and construction, which have the potential to cause accidents:

  •  Metal hook fixings used for attaching the net to the frame have cause serious injuries, including amputations, deep penetrative wounds and injuries involving trapping parts of the body.
  •  The net itself can cause cuts and trap parts of the body if the mesh size is too large, or the cord is too thin.
  • The goal frame. Serious impact and crushing injuries have been caused by goals that have fallen over or collapsed, either as a result of poor design or maintenance or modification of the goal or through poor installation.
